Reynaud's devices were not the only ones that could show short sequences of moving images at the end of the 19th century. The Zoopraxiscope by Muybridge, the Schnellseher by Anschütz, the Bioskop by the Skladanowsky brothers, Thomas Edison's Kinetoscope, and finally the Cinématographe by the Lumière brothers—all competed for public favor.
