The Camera Obscura was a precursor to photography. While the principle of the Camera Obscura was known in antiquity, the first photograph was not created until much later: in 1827 in the studio of Nicéphore Niépce. He used a Camera Obscura to expose a metal plate coated with asphalt and lavender oil – for several days.
