The Austrian writer Elfriede Jelinek adapted Ingeborg Bachmann's "Malina" into a film screenplay. Ten years later, Michael Haneke made a film of Jelinek's own novel "The Piano Teacher". Here too, the story deals with the dissolution of the boundaries of the self in a complex female artist character. Isabelle Huppert played the lead role, as in MALINA.
