Wie hängen sie zusammen
Shakespeare's "Hamlet" and the narrator in Ingeborg Bachmann's "Malina" have more in common than one might think. Both are complex (anti-)heroines who seek ways out of violent situations—with tragic consequences each time. By interpreting the Prince of Denmark as a woman, Asta Nielsen engages with questions of gender roles that—albeit in different forms—are also posed in "Malina."
