In the same year as THE JAZZ SINGER, Fritz Lang's monumental film METROPOLIS (DE 1927) was released. It was not yet a sound film; the film music by Gottfried Huppertz was performed alongside the projection. The score also played a significant role in the reconstruction of the movie's sequence of scenes, parts of which had been lost over time.
