The walking leaf is no longer found in Europe today, probably because it has become too cold here. In contrast, during the Eocene warm period 47 million years ago, the climate was warm and humid. This is evidenced, among other things, by fossil leaves. The number, shape, and distribution of the stomata (pores) allow us to infer about CO₂ concentration, temperature, and precipitation.
