Aron Lehmann's film adaptation of "Kohlhaas" transfers the literary material into a plot that also concerns filmmaking itself. "The Casanova Project" is also a satire on filmmaking and the artistic pretensions of the educated middle class. It aims to film the autobiography of Giacomo Casanova (1725-1798), but this endeavor ends in a resounding failure. On the other hand, Frederico Fellini successfully adapted the material in "Fellini's Casanova" (1976), borrowing the motif of a director in existential crisis from his earlier film "8½" (1963).
